Our Top 100
Our Top 100 is a playlist created through community participation. Cards are provided for people to contribute a song and memory that is sparked each time their song is heard. These cards are hung up by the participants for others to read and the songs are uploaded to an online playlist for those to listen to while visiting the project. To date there are Winston-Salem, Boone and Orlando versions of Our Top 100.
In this project, I share one of my memories associated with a song:
"My parents raised me Methodist in the winter and Catholic in the summer. They agreed that I should be confirmed in the Methodist church. My friend Pam and I were twelve when my father drove us to our weekly confirmation class in his 1971 midnight blue Mercedes Benz with tan leather interior, a sunroof, power windows, and a cassette player. Dad loved the hunt for unique things and this not-quite antique car was one of his favorites. (He only bought one new car in his life). I felt special cruising around my working class town in New Jersey in that fancy foreign car. One of those rides to church with Pam, my dad always played the same album by Englebert Humperdinck. We listened to 'Quando, Quando, Quando' so many times that we nicknamed the car the Quandomobile."
Then people are invited to participate in the project by adding their songs and memories.
